Overview

Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders (NONL) accepts applications annually for Dan Mordecai Nursing Scholarships. The Dan Mordecai Educational Scholarship was established in 2002 through a contribution in memory of Dan Mordecai, a dear friend of nursing and of NONL. Mr. Mordecai not only contributed the seed money for the scholarship fund, but also supported NONL in a variety of ways, including support of the first NONL Conferences. The scholarship continues to help fund tuition fees for undergraduate and graduate nursing students in Nevada. Nine $1,000 scholarships will be awarded: three to BSN and/or RN-to-BSN students, three to MSN students, and three to PhD in Nursing and/or DNP students.

It takes extraordinary commitment to enter and complete undergraduate and graduate nursing education. This scholarship is intended to reward your dedication and to support your goal of advancing your education. You are the future of nursing, and we know that in helping to support your educational goals, we will also be furthering the mission of NONL by advancing our profession.

Eligibility

  • Nevada residency
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate (BSN or RN-to-BSN) or graduate (MSN, PhD in Nursing, or DNP) program in Nevada

Application Process

  • Completed application must be submitted electronically through the Web form on this site; no paper applications will be accepted
  • Application must include a personal statement outlining why this scholarship should be awarded to you and how you plan to use your education to advance the future of nursing (500 words or less); this statement should provide an overview of your past accomplishments and address how your success will benefit the nursing profession
  • One letter of recommendation from current supervisor or faculty member; this must be submitted electronically as part of the application process; additional letters of recommendation will not be considered

Approval and Award Process

The NONL Scholarship Committee reviews the scholarship applications and determines the scholarship recipients. Consideration will be given to each candidate's current professional membership(s), professional certification (not applicable for first degree students), community/volunteer service, personal statement, and supervisor/faculty letter of recommendation. The Committee has the discretion to determine the total amount awarded each year based on the number of qualified applicants.
